Disney's character Mickey Mouse-created in 1928-brought a lot of happiness to many people suffering in the depression-era. Disney originally intended for Mickey to be called "Mortimer", but his wife thought it sounded too boring. Walt Disney showed a love for art back when he attended the Benton Grammar School in Kansas City, Missouri. He later attended classes at the Kansas City Art Institute. When Disney was in high school, he drew cartoons for the Voice, his high school's student newspaper. Although Walt  created and provided the voice for the infamous character, a man name Ub Iwerks first drew and animated a lot of the first animated features. In 1928-1934, Walt created some of the other main Disney characters such as Minnie, Donald, and Goofy. Later competition compelled Walt to create more cartoons. He began creating "silly symphonies" like The Skeleton Dance and Flowers and Trees. The Three Little Pigs, and The Ugly Duckling were a couple that received Oscars. After that stage, Disney began one of his biggest projects, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It made $8 million dollars on its first release. Disney created many animations after that. Among the most popular are Pinocchio, Cinderella, Peter Pan, and Bambi.
